FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Police are searching for a driver in a fatal crash that happened on Route 834 in Franklin County on Sunday around 7 p.m.
A 2000 Jeep Cherokee traveled south on Route 834 near Route 670, ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree, according to Virginia State Police.
Yancy Caleb Velazquez, 20, of Penhook, the front seat passenger in the vehicle, died at the scene. Velazquez was not wearing his seatbelt the time of the accident, police said.
According to a press statement, police have not located the driver who fled after the crash. Law enforcement questioned the other passengers and are following up on the information to find the driver.
The crash remains under investigation.
