ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred in Rockbridge County on Sept. 1
According to State Police, around 12:55 p.m., 59-year-old Edward A. Mitchell, from Scottsburg, Indiana, was driving a 2016 GMC Denali east on I-64, near Fredricksburg Road. Investigators believe Mitchell ran off the side of the road and overturned.
State Police said Mitchell was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.
As the investigation continued, VSP identified William Barger Jr. as a passenger in the vehicle. State Police said Barger was not wearing his seatbelt. He passed away at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
