ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Frigid temperatures and snow can cause serious issues for your car. Experts say it’s important to check on the health on your car as temperatures drop.

TJ Pruitt, owner of Ultimate Kustoms Auto Repair in Roanoke, says two common issues he sees are flat tires and windshield wiper damage.

Another problem he encounters is people taking too long to warm up their cars.

“I would say give it a couple minutes, but don’t leave your car out there for five, 10, or 15 or 20 minutes just so it gets hot. Start it a couple minutes, run back out there, jump in, and go,” advised Pruitt.

Pruitt says letting your car run for too long can cause thermostat issues and the engine to overheat.
