UPDATE: 11:00 p.m. — For twenty-two days, Mac and Bob’s, was closed after five of its employees tested positive for Coronavirus and a fire broke out in the building, all within a week of each other.
“…not knowing how long it was going to be,” said owner, Bob Rotanz. “It was a long twenty-two days, but we’ve got a lot to be thankful for.”
Owner, Bob Rotanz said despite these setbacks, his staff stayed resilient.
Rotanze – “We’ve got great employees and great customers, so we’re very fortunate.”
During those twenty-two days, long-time customers had to ask themselves the tough question.
Harry Brewbaker, a long-time Mac and Bob’s customer, faced that very question.
“Where do we go eat? You know, whenever you want to go somewhere close for dinner you go to Mac and Bobs,” Brewbaker said.
So support from not just customers but also local businesses started coming in, to fix the damage and get the business back up and running.
Connie Watkins, another long-time customer described “I mean, we drive by every day, to see ‘Are we open yet? Are we open yet?'”
“We’ve got some very loyal customers,” Rotanz said. “The kind words they say on social media about… ‘Can’t wait for us to open up.’ ‘Can’t wait to get back and support us.'”
“It also speaks to Bob,” Brewbaker said “Bob supports so many different things in the area. You know, you never see a commercial for Mac and Bob’s, but if there’s a charitable event going on or something like that, Bob’s always there.”
Now, Rotanz and the Mac and Bob’s crew are hoping there aren’t any similar surprises in the future.
“Hopefully we’ll have a little bit of a break,” Rotanz said with a laugh. “We’ve had a few hurdles. We could use a little bit of downtime on that stuff.”
Rotanz also mentioned that those employees who tested positive with COVID-19 have all recovered.
