LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) —  As a show of support for national efforts to combat the coronavirus, a Lynchburg orthodontic practice is offering virtual appointments to provide high-quality care while ensuring the well-being of both new and current patients.

“Virtual appointments are our way of making sure that we are always here for our neighbors and community,” says Dr. Elena Black, owner of Appalachian Orthodontics of Lynchburg. “We understand that patients need ongoing orthodontic care or may want to start their journey to a new smile. So, we are here for you in every way we can be— via email, phone and social media.”

By taking a few pictures of the patient’s mouth, Dr. Black can evaluate the need for orthodontic treatment, create a plan, and — for candidates who qualify — start the process for clear aligner therapy.

“Ensuring timely access to our valued patients that entrust their care to us in the communities we serve is our priority,” says Dr. Black. “Our patients now have the ability to be seen from the security of their home and avoid unnecessary travel during this time.”

For patients already in orthodontic care, Dr. Black offers both virtual dental monitoring and phone consultations. In addition, if patients need to pick up their clear aligners or other treatment items, the office has a secure entrance in the back where patient can collect their items without having personal contact with employees or the general public.

“I want my patients and the community to know that we are working hard to keep everyone safe and healthy, just as we always have,” says Dr. Black. “We are proud to be here for the community and doing all that we can during this time.”

To arrange a virtual visit, a patient needs a mobile device, tablet, or computer with a camera and internet connection. After scheduling the appointment, the patient will receive an email or text message with step-by-step instructions.
