LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Lynchburg Fire Marshal says the fire on Stafford Street on May 30 was determined an accident.

On Tuesday night, crews were dispatched to the 400 block of Stafford Street for a house fire. The Lynchburg Fire Department says the homeowner’s bedroom was on fire, and they were able to escape the blaze and call the fire department.

On the scene, firefighters found smoke and fire in the back bedroom. Crews say within 20 minutes, the blaze was under control and the home sustained heavy water and smoke damage.

The homeowner was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

After an investigation, the Fire Marshal determined the fire was an accident. Fire Officials say crowded conditions in the home made it difficult for investigators to identify an exact cause.

The total amount of damages has not been released at this time.
