LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A 95-year-old woman got the celebration of a lifetime on Saturday, Oct. 15 for her service to the community.

Zerbie Swain is being honored for her 75 years in Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA), the nation’s first sorority for African American college women. To honor Swain members of AKA lined the streets wearing the sorority’s colors of pink and green. She then received a diamond pin and certificate for her dedication to sisterhood and community service.

Swain says she will be 96 in November and is still an active member. She tells WFXR that it has been a privilege to stand alongside all the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
