Woman dead after Saturday night shooting in Bedford; suspect in custody

BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR) – Police in Bedford are investigating after a woman died at the hospital following a Saturday night shooting.

According to the Bedford Police Department, officers responded to the 900 block of Burks Hill Road at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 3 for a report of a woman who had been shot.

When officers and first responders arrived at the scene, they found 36-year-old Jessica Ryan Moore of Bedford, with a gunshot wound. Moore was taken to Bedford Memorial Hospital, where she later died from her injury.

During the investigation, officers determined that the injury was caused by a male who was a passenger in Moore’s vehicle as she was driving.

Police say they arrested 34-year-old Daniel Joseph Norwood of Lynchburg, in connection with the shooting.

He is being charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless handling of a firearm and is currently being held in the Bedford Adult Detention Center of the Blue Ridge Regional Jail.
