CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Authorities have taken one man into custody following the death of another man in Campbell County, which is now being investigated as a homicide.

Shortly before 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the 200 block of Magaron Lane for a welfare check and ended up finding the body of 57-year-old David Malcom Little.

The sheriff’s office previously called the incident a suspicious death, but on Thursday, July 28, officials announced the investigation has been upgraded to a homicide.

Authorities say 54-year-old Matthew McNeil of Rustburg was taken into custody around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday as a result of this investigation. He is being held without bond at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center.

McNeil is currently facing charges for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and grand larceny of a motor vehicle, but officials tell WFXR News they expect “additional and upgraded charges” in connection with Little’s death.

The Campbell County Investigation Division is working with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office on this ongoing homicide investigation.
