VSP: Campbell County driver dead after crashing into tree Monday

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A young man is dead after crashing into a tree less than two miles north of Route 701 in Campbell County Monday afternoon.

According to Virginia State Police, at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, a 2016 Nissan Sentra was heading south on Marysville Road when it ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree.

Police say the driver — identified as 20-year-old Cody D. Ratliff of Gladys — was wearing a seatbelt, but he still died at the scene of the crash.

The investigation into this single-vehicle crash is still ongoing, officials say.
