LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – On Thursday, the Timbrook Library at 18891 Leesville Road in Lynchburg will host a free job fair.
Tim Saunders from Virginia Career Works’ Central Region says that the number of people filing claims for unemployment insurance in the greater Lynchburg area has climbed to 1,746 during the week of Aug. 28, which is the highest weekly unemployment number recorded since March 6.
The number includes claims filed in Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell.
The increase comes after the number of weekly unemployment claims in the Lynchburg region dropped to a low of 879 during the week of July 31.
As employment claims have continued to rise over the past month, the number of job openings has remained steady.
Because of this, Virginia Career Works and the Campbell County Office of Economic Development are hosting the Timberlake/Campbell County Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9.
Job seekers wanting to participate are being asked to register for the event by clicking here.
Employers scheduled to be on-site for the event include:
- Banker Steel
- C&C Piping and Fabrication
- Campbell County Human Resources
- Foster Fuels
- Georgia Pacific
- Rage Plastics
Those who are attending are asked to bring copies of their resume.
