UPDATE: Fire officials call fire at Marshall’s Mattress and More an ‘interior fire attack’; one injured

UPDATE 7:46 p.m.: The fire marshal’s office in Campbell County and other fire departments continue to investigate a fire that sparked at Marshall’s Mattress and More Monday morning. Crews were at the store for more than nine hours.

According to the Brookville-Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department, crews were alerted to the commercial structure fire along Timberlake Road shortly before 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 27.

The owners of Marshall’s Mattress and More told WFXR News that the building wasn’t a total loss, but their business looks like it might be. WFXR News also learned that the owner of Peaksview Brew and Games next door was inside at the time.

One person was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and then transported to VCU. At this time, there is no word on that person’s condition.

The fire remains under investigation. Fire officials say this was an interior fire attack, but there is no threat to the public or any nearby businesses.


UPDATE 5:30 p.m.: The fire marshal’s office in Campbell County is releasing new information regarding the Monday morning fire at Marshall’s Mattress and More along Timberlake Road in Campbell County.

The fire marshal says that it happened between the mattress store and Peaks View Brew and Games next door.

He also told WFXR News that one person was hurt and taken to Lynchburg General Hospital before being brought to VCU.

According to the fire marshal, the fire is being investigated as an interior fire attack.


UPDATE 3:21 p.m.: The Forest Volunteer Fire Department shared additional details about Monday morning’s fire at a Marshall’s Mattress and More along Timberlake Road in Campbell County.

According to the department, when crews from Lynchburg, Campbell County, and Bedford County arrived at the scene of the commercial structure fire, some were assigned to fight the fire inside while others were assigned to the roof to cut open skylights to improve the interior conditions.

The fire was extinguished by early Monday afternoon, but officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.


UPDATE 12:23 p.m.: First responders from Lynchburg, Campbell County, and Bedford County were called out to a fire at a mattress store along Timberlake Road Monday morning.

WFXR News visited the scene of the fire and learned that the fire took place at Marshall’s Mattress and More — which is housed within a multi-purpose building — and caused substantial damage to the store.

According to fire officials, members of the Lynchburg Fire Department, the Lyn-Dan Heights Volunteer Fire Department, the Brookville-Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department, and the Forest Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident.

The fire has been extinguished as of this writing, but officials have yet to announce the cause of the fire

The Lynchburg Department of Emergency Services has not provided an update on when Timberlake Road and Greenview Road are expected to reopen.


LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Lynchburg officials say that multiple road closures are in effect around the Timberlake Road area due to a Monday morning incident.

According to the Lynchburg Department of Emergency Services, Greenview Drive is closed near Timberlake Road until further notice.

In addition, the department says Timberlake Road is closed to all traffic from Laxton past Greenview, with Virginia State Police redirecting traffic down Laxton.

This comes as the Lyn-Dan Heights Volunteer Fire Department asks motorists to drive with caution on Timberlake and Greenview because crews have an “active call.”
