Tennessee man arrested in connection with fatal hit-and-run in Lynchburg, police say

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Police announced Monday morning that a Tennessee man has been arrested in connection with the Saturday evening hit-and-run in Lynchburg that resulted in a man’s death.

According to the Lynchburg Police Department, officers responded just after 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 to the 100 block of Melinda Drive for a report about an injured man.

When police arrived at the scene, they say they found a pedestrian — later identified as 59-year-old Daniel Bathurst of Lynchburg — who had been hit by a vehicle. He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, but later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The department says that 24-year-old Charles Beaty of Jamestown, Tenn. was taken into custody on Sunday, Sept. 26 and charged with felony hit and run and reckless driving.

As of this writing, police say the investigation into Saturday’s incident is still ongoing.
