Superintendent wants to add 2-hour early dismissal days to Lynchburg City Schools’ calendar

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Officials with Lynchburg City Schools want to adjust the district’s school calendars for the rest of the year in order to give staff more time to prepare for and address any needs in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Superintendent Dr. Crystal Edwards is recommending to the Lynchburg School Board the addition of several early dismissal days for schools.

If the school board approves the changes, all students will be dismissed two hours early early on the following days:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 27
  • Wednesday, Nov. 10
  • Wednesday, Nov. 17
  • Wednesday, Dec. 1
  • Wednesday, Dec. 8
  • Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022
  • Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022

The superintendent is also recommending the following staff calendar changes:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 2: Change from a Professional Development Day to a Staff Workday
  • Friday, Dec. 17: Change from an early dismissal day for all staff

There will be a school board work session held on Tuesday, Oct 19 at 5 p.m. in the Board Room of the School Administration Building to discuss the possibility of approving these changes to the 2021-2022 Lynchburg City Schools and Bass school calendars.
