UPDATE: Smell of smoke prompting evacuation of students, staff at Sandusky Middle School in Lynchburg determined to be a false alarm

UPDATE 5:45 p.m.: According to Lynchburg City Schools, Wednesday’s incident involving the smell of smoke and leading to an evacuation at Sandusky Middle School was a false alarm.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Lynchburg school officials say that firefighters are currently at Sandusky Middle School investigating the smell of smoke in the building.

According to Lynchburg City Schools’ Facebook post from 2:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, all of the students and staff members have been evacuated from the middle school.

The district says Sandusky Elementary School is not affected by the evacuation, but there are fire trucks in the area.
