UPDATE 5:59 a.m. (9/10/21): The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office says the student taken into custody at Liberty High School Wednesday has been charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds.

Authorities say the investigation into the incident has been completed, but there is no word on the student’s identity or whether the student is facing disciplinary actions at school.


BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Authorities took a Bedford County student into custody Wednesday morning after a firearm was found in a vehicle at Liberty High School.

The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office and Bedford County Public Schools received information on Wednesday, Sept. 8 that a student was believed to have a firearm in their possession on school property, according to officials.

The sheriff’s office says deputies and school staff members identified and intercepted the student when the student arrived at Liberty High School Wednesday morning.

When authorities searched the vehicle, they recovered the firearm and took the student into custody without incident.

As of this writing, officials say there have not been any known threats made by this student. However, the investigation is still ongoing.
