Sheriff’s office to hold wreath laying ceremony for fallen law enforcement, including Campbell County deputy

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Members of the Campbell County community are invited to attend the annual Wreath Laying Ceremony Thursday morning in honor of a local deputy who lost his life in the line of duty, as well as all other fallen law enforcement officers.

The Wreath Laying Ceremony is set to take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 13 at the Memorial Garden in front of the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office at 87 Courthouse Lane in Rustburg. This annual ceremony is held in conjunction with National Law Enforcement Memorial Week.

The sheriff’s office says the parents of Campbell County Deputy Jason Saunders — who was killed in the line of duty on April 3, 2007 — will be in attendance. 

Members of the sheriff’s office, Campbell County employees, and other citizens are welcome to attend this special ceremony, which will feature a retired sheriff from Charlotte County as the guest speaker. 

Officials say the ceremony is scheduled as follows:

  • Honor Guard post colors
  • Sheriff’s opening remarks
  • Moment of silence and prayer
  • Introduction of guest speaker      
  • Guest speaker: former Charlotte County Sheriff Thomas Jones
  • Placement of wreath
  • Sheriff’s closing remarks
  • Honor Guard retire colors
