BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — One person is dead and one is in the hospital after a shooting was reported in Bedford County Monday morning.
At approximately 10:55 a.m. on Monday, April 26, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office says a 911 call came in from 1711 Villamont Road in Blue Ridge about a man who had shot himself.
However, while deputies were en route, the caller subsequently reported that two men had been shot, according to authorities.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found two male subjects with gunshot wounds.
Even though one man was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office says the other has been brought to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
This announcement comes after Bedford County Public Schools posted about a perimeter lockdown at Montvale Elementary School at 11:44 a.m. on Monday because of “an event in the community.”
The sheriff’s office says the area schools were placed on lockdown while deputies were responding to the scene out of an abundance of caution.
However, the school district announced that the lockdown had been lifted less than 15 minutes later.
Bedford County authorities are still at the scene at this time, but officials say there is no immediate threat to the community from this incident, which is currently under investigation.
