UPDATE: Pedestrian killed, driver charged after vehicle crash in Lynchburg

UPDATE 6:50 p.m.: Police in Lynchburg have confirmed the death of a pedestrian in a crash that involved a vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

The department says the crash took place at 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6 at the intersection of Forest Brook Road and Belle Terre Drive.

According to police, a Chevrolet pickup truck struck a pedestrian, who has been identified as 82-year-old William Frederick Kidd, Jr. of Lynchburg.

The driver of the truck, 34-year-old William Dequan Giles of Lynchburg, has been charged with reckless driving, officials say.

This area was closed to traffic for several hours, but has since been reopened.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – A crash that authorities are calling “serious” has closed a stretch of Forest Brook Road in Lynchburg.

According to a media release, Forest Brook Road is closed between Holmes Circle and Belle Terre Drive and will be closed to all traffic until further notice.

The Traffic and Safety Unit of the Lynchburg Police Department is investigating this crash and is asking drivers to avoid the area.
