ALTAVISTA, Va. (WFXR) – Altavista On Track has announced its 12th annual Downtown Scarecrow Stroll to take place through the month of October.
This family-friendly event is aimed at increasing downtown foot traffic, give additional exposure to local businesses and provide a safe and fun way for families to get active outside.
Businesses who would like to take part in the event may apply online by clicking here. Paper applications are also available at the Altavista Town Hall. Applications must be submitted by Sept. 17 and scarecrows must be set up by Oct. 1.
The event is open to all businesses within the town limits but scarecrows must be placed in the downtown district during the competition which is free for all businesses.
Any businesses outside of the downtown district who would like to participate can contact Main Street Coordinator George Sandridge for help finding a location.
Residents and visitors can then vote for their favorite scarecrow during the competition which runs from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 by going online.
Paper ballots and ballot boxes will also be available at the following locations:
- Altavista Town Hall
- Staunton River Memorial Library
- Main Street Café
Pictures of the scarecrows will be posted on the Altavista On Track Facebook page and the winner will be announced on Nov. 1.
