LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Run 4 Their Lives Lynchburg (R4TL) will hold its 13th annual 5K run/walk at Liberty University on April 24.
Freedom 4/24 is sponsoring the event that aims to raise awareness of sexual exploitation and human trafficking across the country.
The event invites runners and walkers of all ages to take part. Participants will also raise money for Freedom 4/24.
Anyone who raised at least $50 can participate for free.
Participants also have the option to join the fight through the 24 Virtual Challenge and will be challenged to run one mile every day from April 1 through April 24 to raise awareness and fight exploitation.
“In 2020, The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported a four-fold increase in online child sexual exploitation from 2019. This is simply unacceptable. We believe that April 24th can be a day where the Lynchburg community uses the Run 4 Their Lives 5K as a platform to raise awareness, become advocates, and educate themselves on the issues and prevalence of human trafficking and sexual exploitation and learn how they can actively prevent it.”Rachael Smith, Programs Manager
This year’s race focuses on preventing sexual exploitation in the local community. Freedom 4/24 is challenging participants to think of a person in their life they want to keep them safe from human trafficking and exploitation and encouraging them to write that person’s name on their arm while they participate.
Freedom 4/24 and the Run 4 Their Lives Race Series will be adhering to local and federal guidelines regarding COVID-19 at the time of the event.
