UPDATE 12/13 at 9:16 a.m.: The Bedford Police Department reports the Walmart in Bedford is now open to the public after a suspicious package was discovered inside the store on Monday, Dec. 12.

Bedford Police say there is no threat to the public.

UPDATE 12/12 at 4:14 p.m.: The Bedford Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying a male after discovering a suspicious package at the Walmart in Bedford.

Police say they responded to reports of a suspicious package at 12:47 p.m. at 1125 East Lynchburg Sale Turnpike on Monday, Dec. 12. They say a man was seen entering the store pushing a personal cart with a coat covering a bag inside.

They say the man was then seen removing his coat from the cart and leaving the bag and cart in the store.

The Walmart is closed to the general public at this time as police continue their investigation.

Bedford Police says they do not suspect any threats to the public.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va (WFXR) — The Bedford Police Department is asking the community to avoid the area around the Walmart at 1126 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke in Bedford.

Police say they are doing an investigation in this area.
