LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A police investigation is underway after a man was hospitalized following a shooting and a vehicle crash in Lynchburg overnight.

The Lynchburg Police Department says officers responded to the intersection of Atherholt Road and Thompson Drive shortly before 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24 for a report of a hit-and-run involving a man who had been shot.

After the crash, police say the man — who had a serious gunshot wound — was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital in another vehicle.

According to the department, officers determined the original crime scene was in the 1500 block of Floyd Street. Not only did police find several cartridge casings at the scene, but they also found a residence and a vehicle that had been hit by gunfire.

Authorities say there is no information about any suspects at this time, but the investigation is still ongoing.
