BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — One man is dead after he reportedly tried to attack his estranged wife and was shot in her Bedford County home Friday evening.

According to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, just after 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, a call came in from a woman who said her estranged husband had broken into her home and was armed with a knife. The woman also told authorities the man had been shot.

When deputies arrived at the home in the 1000 block of Commonwealth Circle in Forest, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

Statements given to investigators indicate the female resident opened the door before the man forced his way into the home and tried to attack her with a knife.

A man inside the home reportedly witnessed the attack, found a handgun, and shot the other man several times.

The sheriff’s office says the assailant — identified as 40-year-old Daniel Wayne Eades of Gretna — was pronounced dead at the scene. Eades’ body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the female homeowner was uninjured, according to officials.

Authorities say multiple knives were found and recovered from the scene, as well as the handgun used in the shooting.

Bedford County Sheriff Mike Miller says the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
