LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A 19-year-old is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of his 2-month-old daughter in Lynchburg Tuesday night, police say.
According to authorities, the Lynchburg Police Department and the Lynchburg Fire Department were called to McCausland Ridge Apartments at 2075 Langhorne Road shortly after 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18 for a report of an infant with breathing problems.
Emergency personnel tried to perform life-saving measures on scene before bringing the baby to Lynchburg General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, officials say.
There were reportedly no other children in the home.
After a thorough investigation, police tell WFXR News that the child’s father, 19-year-old William James Smith, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center.
Authorities say Lynchburg Child Protective Services assisted throughout this investigation.
