Police in Lynchburg investigating reports of vandalized, stolen gravestones

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Officers with the Lynchburg Police Department are piecing together who was involved in a reported incident of vandalized and stolen gravestones from June.

According to police, the incident took place at the Old City Cemetery at 401 Taylor Street.

The department says the following was reported:

  • Three gravestones were broken
  • One gravestone was stolen
  • One gravestone was damage with spray paint
  • One podium was etched with scratches and writing

The damage is estimated to be in excess of $3,500.

Officers believe that the incident took place between June 12 and June 29.
