AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A family in Amherst County is displaced after a fire destroyed their home early Sunday morning.

Amherst County Deputy Fire Marshall Jarred Scott says crews were dispatched at approximately 12:17 a.m. on Sunday, June 5 to 471 Rothwood Road, where they found a double-wide trailer home that was engulfed in flames.

Scott tell WFXR News the family had smoke detectors and all of them made it out of the home with no injuries, but the home was a total loss.

At this time, the American Red Cross is assisting the family, as well as their distant relatives, according to Scott.

The Pedlar Volunteer Fire Department, Amherst Fire Department, and Amherst County Department of Public Safety reportedly assisted the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department at the scene of the blaze.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
