UPDATE 4/20 at 5:04 P.M. (WFXR) – The Virginia State Police says a man is now in custody after human remains were found in a burned vehicle in Bedford County on April 18th.
After midnight on Tuesday, the Bedford Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Sandy Level Road. While on the scene, crews found the vehicle in heavy flames, and once the fire was extinguished human remains were found inside.
During the investigation, officers determined that the victim died of violent crimes prior to the vehicle fire. As the investigation continued, Virginia State Police Special Agents were able to identify a 29-year-old suspect.
The unidentified man was located in the City of Roanoke and charged with Murder in the Second Degree.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police says they are investigating a fatal vehicle fire that occurred in Bedford County on April 18th.
According to VSP around 12:45 am on Tuesday, emergency responders with the Bedford County Fire and Rescue arrived at Sandy Level Road to find a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. After crews extinguished the fire, human remains were found inside the vehicle.
The road was closed while agents with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation processed the scene, but it is now reopened. The Western District Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is currently working to make a positive identification.
