AMHERST, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Amherst County that left a man dead on June 1.
Around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, the deputies from the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a man “demonstrating erratic behavior” near the intersection of Route 60 and Sandidges Road.
When a deputy approached the scene, the man allegedly pulled out a machete, prompting the deputy to shoot him.
Crews performed life-saving efforts on the man, but he died on the scene.
The deputy was not injured during the incident and has been placed on administrative leave.
The incident remains under investigation by Virginia State Police at this time.
