UPDATE 9:55 a.m.: The Lynchburg Police Department has identified the man facing several charges — including murder — after an overnight shooting on Fort Avenue that left a man dead and a woman seriously injured.
According to the department, officers responded to the 3400 block of Fort Avenue for a report of shots fired at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1.
An officer who was in the area identified the suspect getting into a vehicle and tried to stop the suspect, which officials say turned into a vehicle pursuit. That pursuit lasted approximately seven minutes before the driver stopped and was taken into custody.
Meanwhile, police at the scene found a woman with a gunshot wound and provided life-saving measures until medics from the Lynchburg Fire Department arrived. The woman was then brought to Lynchburg General Hospital with serious injuries.
Officers also found a man — identified as 22-year-old Cameron Malike Jones of Lynchburg — at another location near the original scene who had died from his injuries.
According to authorities, 22-year-old Devan Rashod Wooding of Halifax, is charged with first degree murder, breaking and entering with intent to murder, possession of a stolen firearm, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, malicious wounding, misdemeanor property damage, felony eluding, and reckless driving.
Wooding is reportedly being held without bond at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center.

The Lynchburg Police Department says the shooting took place shortly after midnight on Tuesday, June 1 in the 3400 block of Fort Avenue.
According to the department, one man is died and a woman is at Lynchburg General Hospital with serious injuries.
Police say a suspect is currently in custody following a vehicle pursuit, which ended at approximately 12:12 a.m. on Tuesday.
