One critically injured after crane, car collide in Bedford County

BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR) — One person is seriously injured after being trapped inside of a car after colliding with a crane in Bedford County on Friday afternoon.

According to the Bedford Fire Department, crews responded to the 1000 block of Independence Boulevard around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20 for reports of a vehicle versus a crane.

When they arrived, they found a crane truck and a small sedan that sustained heavy damage.

One person was said to have been trapped inside of the car, but crews were able to remove the door and extract that person within a few minutes

Fire officials say the occupant was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.

Independence Boulevard was closed for several hours on Friday while the Bedford Police Department investigated the crash.
