National D-Day Memorial ‘No Excuse Night’ free to visitors Saturday

BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR) — ‘No Excuse Night’ is an opportunity to visit the National D-Day Memorial for free this Saturday evening.

June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day, one of the most pivotal battles during World War II occurred. On this day, U.S. soldiers invaded the French coastline to push Germany out of western Europe, paving the way to victory.

The National D-Day Memorial honors the Allied forces that took part in the invasion of Normandy that day. Compared to the rest of the country, Bedford, Virginia suffered the highest per capita D-Day losses.

Guides will be present throughout the grounds to answer any questions about the Memorial or D-Day from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14.
