UPDATE 6:47 a.m.: Appalachian Power says service has been restored to the 1,037 Amherst County customers impacted by an early morning outage near the Lynchburg border.

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — More than 1,000 Amherst County residents are without power early Monday morning due to an Appalachian Power outage near the Lynchburg border.

According to Appalachian Power, 1,037 customers are without power as of 5:44 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 23 between the James River and the Madison Heights area.

The company says the outage started at 2:48 a.m. because of tree contact.

Crews are expected to restore power to the hundreds of customers impacted by this outage by 6:15 a.m. on Monday.
