UPDATE: Most lanes reopened on US-460, patient airlifted to hospital after Appomattox County crash

UPDATE 8:07 a.m.: The Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department says one person was airlifted to the hospital Monday morning following a crash along U.S. Route 460 (Richmond Highway).

According to the department, fire crews and members of the Appomattox County Rescue Squad were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash in the 14000 block of Richmond Highway shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday, June 28.

The first units at the scene confirmed one person was heavily trapped in the vehcile, with power lines involved. Crews safely removed the patient from the vehicle and transferred the patient to the flight crew from Centra One.

Other units on scene included the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and VDOT.

“A big thank you to our public safety dispatchers for calling so many resources in a timely fashion,” the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department wrote on Facebook Monday morning.

Meanwhile, VDOT says only the eastbound right lane and right shoulder are currently closed on U.S. Route 460 near Old Evergreen Road.

APPOMATTOX COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Motorists can expect delays in Appomattox County Monday morning following a vehicle crash that has blocked off both directions of U.S. Route 460.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says all eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. Route 460 are closed near Old Evergreen Road/Route 630.

While VDOT has yet to provide an estimate of the backups from this crash, VDOT’s online traffic map is already showing traffic slowing down in both directions.
