BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Maryland man is dead after a single-vehicle crash occurred in Bedford County during the early morning hours Thursday.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 4 on Route 654, which is less than a mile south of Route 655.
Police say a 1978 Mercedes 240D was traveling north on Route 654 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree.
However, the vehicle was not discovered until a passerby noticed it shortly before 6 a.m., officials say.
The driver of the Mercedes — identified by police as 30-year-old Luke Scott Gray of Damascus, Md. — was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.
Virginia State Police say the crash remains under investigation.
