LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — An Amherst man turned himself in to Lynchburg law enforcement on Tuesday in connection with the recent theft of numerous copper downspouts from a local church.

The Lynchburg Police Department says Fairview Christian Church on Campbell Avenue reported the theft of 21 copper downspouts from the church’s exterior on Feb. 13, but the theft may have occurred as early as December 2020.

On Monday, Feb. 22, the department announced 37-year-old Damien Marquis Solomon of Amherst had multiple outstanding warrants for grand larceny and obtaining money by false pretense in connection with the incident.

Then, on Tuesday, Feb. 23, Solomon turned himself in, according to police.

Officials say the investigation into the copper theft at Fairview Christian Church is still ongoing.
