BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A man charged in connection with another man’s death in Bedford County back in 2020 will be spending the next 55 years behind bars following his court hearing on Tuesday.

On June 4, 2020, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6000 block of White House Road in Moneta and found 72-year-old John Menna dead inside.

Two days later, authorities say Dalton Holbrook was arrested in Chattanooga, Tennessee in connection with the Virginia homicide.

According to court documents, Holbrook was originally charged with capital murder, but that was amended to aggravated murder/robbery after he agreed to plead guilty.

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, Bedford Circuit Court records say a judge sentenced Holbrook to a total of 99 years with 44 years suspended, totaling 55 years in prison.

In addition, the judge reportedly assigned Holbrook five years of supervised probation after he is released from prison.
