BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR) — A man pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge Tuesday morning in connection with the death of a Bedford County teen in July 2021.
According to the Bedford Police Department, officers responded to a call about an unresponsive male at a home in the 1000 block of Pinecrest Avenue at approximately 7 a.m. on July 21, 2021.
When police entered the home, they found an 18-year-old — identified as Braeden Michael Bailey of Bedford County — dead at the scene. Investigators determined the cause of death to be trauma to the head.
Authorities obtained warrants for then-21-year-old Tyler Lee Booth of Bedford, on July 23, 2021 for second-degree murder before he was taken into custody without incident.
Bedford General District Court records say Booth had a hearing on Nov. 29, 2021 and that his case was certified to the grand jury. However, his charge was amended from second-degree murder to involuntary manslaughter, a Class 5 felony.
Several months later, on Tuesday, April 26, officials say Booth entered a guilty plea in the Bedford Circuit Court to the involuntary manslaughter charge.
The Bedford man is scheduled for sentencing at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 30, according to court records.
