UPDATE: Man charged with murder after shooting in Appomattox County; authorities identify victim

UPDATE 10:50 A.M. (7/22/21): The Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim in Wednesday’s homicide as 34-year-old Carlos Rican Roman Jr., who lived along the same road in Stout Spring where he was shot.


APPOMATTOX COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Authorities say a man is in custody and facing a murder charge after fatal shooting took place in Appomattox County on Wednesday.

According to the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 1400 block of Spring Grove Road in Stout Spring just after noon on Wednesday, July 21.

When authorities arrived, they found a male outside of the home with a gunshot wound. CPR was immediately initiated, but the victim died from his injuries at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, deputies arrested and charged 36-year-old Charles Roosevelt Abbitt, Jr. of Spout Spring, with second-degree murder.

The sheriff’s office says they are currently withholding the name of the deceased individual until his family members are notified.
