AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police are investigating a deadly crash in Amherst County that took the life of a Lynchburg man early Sunday morning.

A 2000 Nissan Maxima was traveling west in the 2200 block of Richmond Highway/Route 60 when it ran off the left side of the road and went down a steep embankment, crashing into several trees, according to authorities.

Officials say 22-year-old Damien M. Waugh of Lynchburg, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene of the wreck.

Virginia State Police tell WFXR News they were notified about the incident at approximately 8:04 a.m. on Sunday, July 17 by a passerby on Route 60 who spotted the crashed vehicle.

This deadly crash is still under investigation, police say.
