UPDATE: Lynchburg Police identify victim in Park Avenue shooting; one man facing murder charges

UPDATE 3:40 p.m.: Police have confirmed the identity of the man who died after an overnight shooting in Lynchburg, as well as the man who has been taken into custody in connection with the homicide.

The Lynchburg Police Department says 65-year-old Gary Douglas Braxton of Lynchburg died at Lynchburg General Hospital after he was found shot in the 1800 block of Park Avenue early Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, the department announced Sunday afternoon that 36-year-old Alfonzo Spinner of Lynchburg was taken into custody. He has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Police in Lynchburg are investigating an overnight shooting along Park Avenue that led to a man’s death.

According to the Lynchburg Police Department, officers responded to the 1800 block of Park Avenue for a report of shots fired shortly before 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, but did not survive his injuries.
