NC man facing charges after Wednesday shooting in Lynchburg, police say

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Police say a North Carolina man has ben charged with multiple offenses after Wednesday morning’s shooting in Lynchburg that sent a man to the hospital.

According to the Lynchburg Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Chambers Street shortly at approximately 9:12 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13 after a man was reportedly shot.

When police arrived on scene, they found a man with a serious gunshot injury, who was then transported to Lynchburg General Hospital. 

The department says officers took a man into custody at 9:19 a.m. in connection with the shooting at the intersection of Lovell Street and Chambers Street. 

Authorities then announced on Friday, Oct. 15 that 22-year-old Jaquez Hargett of Kinston, N.C., was arrested Wednesday morning and has been charged with the following:

  • Aggravated malicious wounding
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Shooting from a vehicle
  • Discharge of a firearm in a public place
  • Reckless handling of a firearm

This malicious wounding investigation is still ongoing, officials say.
