Man arrested for arson, other charges after Saturday house fire, Bedford County officials say

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Bedford County fire officials say a man was taken into custody Tuesday evening for several charges — including arson — after a Saturday morning fire.

According to the Bedford County Fire Marshal’s Office, Steven Wayne Thompson Jr. was wanted in connection a house fire that took place around 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8.

Then, at approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, fire officials say Thompson was tracked down and arrested without incident for the following charges:

  • Arson of an occupied dwelling (felony)
  • Assault on a family member (misdemeanor)
  • Probation/parole violation

“The tips sent through crime stoppers and phone calls to our investigators were invaluable in locating Steven,” the Bedford County Fire Marshal’s Office said in a statement on Wednesday, Jan. 12.
