Man arrested after reportedly running into Lynchburg traffic and onto cars

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Lynchburg Police took a man into custody Friday morning after witnesses reported he ran into traffic and walked on cars along Wards Road.

According to a representative for the Lynchburg Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Wards Road at approximately 10:12 a.m. for a report of a man running in traffic and onto cars.

According to witnesses, the man caused several cars to slam on their brakes when he ran towards the oncoming traffic.

One witness told WFXR News the man even ran on top of one van, did a somersault on top of it, then rolled off the back.

When police arrived at the scene, they say the man ran on top of their police car.

Three officers reportedly helped him off the car and took him into custody on an Emergency Custody Order.

Police have not released the man’s identity.
