BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Deputies in Bedford County have arrested a man after, they say, possessed a stolen pontoon boat and attempted to resell its motor.

The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office says the Apex Pontoon Boat was reported as stolen on Dec. 13, 2020, in the Thaxton area.

Last week, on April 13, investigators became aware that the suspect in the case was trying to sell the motor of the stolen pontoon boat, according to the sheriff’s office.

The next day, on April 14, Bedford County authorities say they purchased the motor from the suspect in a sting operation, which resulted in his arrest.

According to officials, Eric Nichols was taken into custody and the stolen boat was found following a search of Nichols’ property.

Nichols is reportedly being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Bedford without bond.
