Main Street Renewal Project to shut down intersection of Main and Tenth Streets in Lynchburg starting July 8

Lynchburg & Central Virginia News

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – As the Main Street Renewal Project continues in downtown Lynchburg, a heavily traveled intersection will be forced to temporarily shut down for several days.

Starting on Thursday, July 8 through Tuesday, July 13, the intersection of Main and Tenth Streets will close to all through traffic to accommodate street rebuilding operations.

The street will undergo demolition before crews install stone base and base asphalt.

Traffic configurations will change to temporary two-way traffic for the duration of the work to allow access to the parking lots and parking decks in the area.

  • The Mid-Town Parking Deck, located off Main Street (between Ninth and Tenth Streets), will be accessible via temporary two-way traffic on Main Street from Ninth Street only.
  • The City Center Parking Deck, top level, located off Main Street (between Tenth and 11th Streets), will be accessible via temporary two-way traffic on Main Street only.
  • The City Center Parking Deck, mid-level, located off of Tenth Street (between Main and Commerce Streets), will be accessible via temporary two-way traffic on Tenth Street from Commerce Street only.
  • The private parking lots located off Tenth Street (between Main and Church Streets), will be accessible via temporary two-way traffic on Tenth Street from Church Street only.

Crews will be working in the street and motorists will be asked to drive slowly and with caution through the new traffic patterns.

Full closures of both the 12th Street intersection and the 1100 block of Main Street are planned for later this summer.
