Lynchburg’s new City Manager to be sworn in on Aug. 6

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Lynchburg’s newly-appointed City Manager will be officially sworn in this Friday, Aug. 6 inside of City Council’s Chambers at City Hall.

Wynter C. Benda comes to Lynchburg after previously serving the City of Norfolk as its Chief Deputy City Manager in 2017 after serving as the Deputy City Manager since 2013.

While in Norfolk, Benda was overseeing several major economic development projects including negotiating a 30-year extension through 2060 of an existing water agreement with Virginia Beach which was valued at $250 million.

He also finalized a $30 million land sale agreement with Hampton Roads Sanitation District for the expansion of the Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow (SWIFT) onto Lambert Point Golf Course as well as spearheaded a partnership with the Downtown Norfolk Council to establish Selden Market – Norfolk’s first retail incubator space.

The official swearing-in ceremony begins at 3 p.m. on Friday.
