LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Officials with Lynchburg City Schools held a school board work session on Tuesday afternoon to discuss early dismissals on a number of days over the next three months.
Superintendent Dr. Crystal Edwards asked for early dismissal days for the Lynchburg City Schools and Bass school calendars, saying these changes are a token of appreciation for all the hard work the staff has done throughout the school year.
In addition, school officials say the changes will provide staff members will extra time to plan for and address any coronavirus-related impacts on the classroom.
During the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 19, the school board voted 7-2 in favor of two-hour early dismissals with the exception of Wednesday, Oct. 27. The early dismissal days will be as follows below:
- Wednesday, Nov. 10
- Wednesday, Nov. 17
- Wednesday, Dec. 1
- Wednesday, Dec. 8
- Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022
- Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022
The superintendent also recommended the following staff calendar changes:
- Tuesday, Nov. 2: Change from a Professional Development Day to a Staff Workday
- Friday, Dec. 17: Change from an early dismissal day for all staff
