UPDATE: The Lynchburg Police Department says, Derek Allen Lewis was taken into custody in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday.
Police report Lewis was taken into custody at the Jacksonville International Airport without incident at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12. They say he is being held in Florida pending extradition proceedings.
The Lynchburg Police Department released the following statement in a press release:
“LPD thanks the many citizens who cooperated with detectives working this investigation and/or provided tips on Lewis’ whereabouts. We would also like to thank our local law enforcement partners, the United States Marshals Service, Jacksonville Police Department, and Jacksonville Airport Police for their assistance.”
UPDATE: The Lynchburg Police Department has named a man wanted in connection with a homicide that took place at Iron and Ale on Cornerstone Street.
LPD says 31-year-old Derek Allen Lewis is wanted in connection with the shooting death of 28-year-old Tyler Shane Johnson.
Police released the following charges in a press release:
- Second-degree murder
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Concealed weapon
They say Lewis was last seen wearing a red shirt and red pants and was driving a black 2017 Ford Escape with Virginia plates: 9157VH.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR)— The Lynchburg Police Department is searching for a man wanted in connection with a homicide on Friday night.
According to police, a man was shot at Iron and Ale on Cornerstone Street. People inside and first responders tried to save the person shot, but he died at the scene. Officers responded to the call at 9:11 p.m., but the suspect had left the restaurant.
The man police are looking for is described as an adult white male with a reddish brown beard, wearing a dark-colored hoodie with a white and yellow design on the front, a dark-colored baseball style hat backward, dark-colored long shorts, and dark-colored tennis shoes with a white check.
