LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Authorities in Lynchburg say they have received multiple calls from residents saying that scammers are calling and impersonating a member of the Lynchburg Police Department.

The department says the scammers may be aggressive and try to keep their victims on the phone until they get money.

Police in Lynchburg say they will never call and demand or request money for missed court dates or anything else.

If you receive a call like this, you are encouraged to hang up the phone.

You can report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission by calling 1-877-382-2454 or going online at www.ftc.gov. You can also call the Lynchburg Police Department at 434-455-6041.
